Starting School at The Redway
We acknowledge how important starting school can be at such an early age and we are dedicated to making that transition as easy as possible for the children and their families.
We also recognise how difficult some parents can find parting from their children at such an early age, we encourage a close relationship with families through joint assessments through our Home Link Scheme, planning and very careful preparation before the children arrive for their first day. Our staff work very hard to provide a warm and supportive atmosphere, where we hope children and their parents can feel welcome and safe and settle in quickly.

All children are allocated a ‘key person’ who works closely with specialist staff such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists to ensure that all the children’s needs are met. They will also develop a close relationship with the children to ensure that their emotional well-being is looked after.

Providing a warm and supportive atmosphere

Providing and experiencing a wide range of activities

Ensuring children have fun and feel secure

A well-designed curriculum, while they learn and develop.

Curriculum
The curriculum is delivered through play, so careful consideration is given to the equipment and strategies needed to enable each child to access and succeed in their environment. To this end staff introduce communication, social and behavioural strategies to ensure all children have the opportunity to make progress.
A range of different learning environments are available including opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities which are planned into the daily routine.
The EYFS framework includes 7 areas of learning and development that are equally important and inter-connected. However, 3 areas, known as the prime areas, are seen as particularly important for igniting curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building children’s capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.
The prime areas are:
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Prime areas are strengthened & applied through 4 specific areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
EYFS – Topics
In EYFS the needs of the whole child are paramount. Using the themes, overarching principles and practices set out in the EYFS Guidance, staff carefully structure each child’s learning to meet their individual needs, interests and stage of development.
Our topic for the Spring Term is: 'Autumn & The Weather'

What is Home-link in the Early Years?
Here at The Redway School we offer a Home-Link service to our Early Years pupils on admission to school.
Sam Lazard, our Home-link Liaison Teacher, works closely with the Local Authority regarding potential pupils, are aged 0-5, have complex needs and who may require a placement with us. We can then be involved from the very beginning and have an input into the EHCP planning process.
