Transitions & Lifelong Learning

Most pupils at The Redway School will move to the transitions department at year 10. The department is situated next to the main school, enjoying all the facilities of the main school site but with opportunities to reach out into the wider community.

Making The Transition

Our goal is to make that transition in the best way possible, to find new and meaningful ways to move into adult life. Our emphasis is on building the skills needed for life, how can we best equip our students for life so they may live their lives as included citizens. We want our students to enjoy their lives, to be part of their own life and to have a say, to have control over their lived experiences. We want the following outcomes for our students:

Qualifications and Accreditations

By offering a wide range of learning opportunities we can move towards successful achievement, recognising all the time that achievement can take many forms. For some student’s achievement will be of a linear fashion but for others it will not. Achievements can be very small, or achievement may be simply staying in a place of comfort and stimulation, for others achievement will be experiencing supported employment or achieving awards and qualifications. Whatever our achievements are they are celebrated, recorded and shared.

This is achieved through collaborative working with families, health professionals, social care teams, further education providers, supported work placements and effective teamwork where the student can take a lead in their own learning, to ‘have a say’.
