School Council and Pupil Voice
The views of the pupils are used to inform decisions which affect them, hence, enabling them to play an active role in shaping their own learning.
Through the continued development of Pupil Voice there will be:
- greater pupil involvement in the identification and achievement of whole school aims
- greater opportunities for pupils to make informed, meaningful choices leading to improved self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive mental health for pupils
- enhanced development of more personalised, and person-centred education and care for all pupils
- an enhanced ethos of mutual respect and trust between adults and pupils
Our Student Council is made up of a cross section of pupils from across our school community. Meetings take place each half term. Council members wear their lanyard or badge to show that they are part of the Student Council. An agenda is published in advance of the meeting to give all classes an opportunity to discuss agenda items and to get involved through the Pupil voice post box.
Post boxes are situated in the main school building at Reception and another in Transitions. Pupils can tell us how they are feeling and make suggestions that we can discuss at the Student Council and with the Senior Leadership team. Pupils can also be supported to send their contributions to the: pupil.voice@theredway.net
The post-boxes are emptied regularly. We encourage contributions towards this in any form…. a written note, an email, a hand drawn picture, a series of photos or a video of a class discussion.
We also recognise that for many of our pupils, the staff are best placed to advocate on behalf of the pupils and so welcome contributions through staff.
